the current incarnation

I was one step away from pulling the cord on this site many times. My goal was to combine my personal life into one place. My photos from Unsplash, my external hobby list links from my teenage angst blog (thelonelylands), and my portfolio (dinil.dev). The portfolio was the worst. It was trying to be both professional and personal at the same time, and it was failing at both.

So I made the executive decision to turn dinil.dev into a professional portfolio, let thelonelylands.com live on as a sort of museum piece, and fold everything else into what’s called a “digital garden”. Which is exactly what you’re looking at right now.

whats it built on

This site is built on a heavily customized Quartz 4 instance. Its essentially a tool to host any obsidian vault as a website. So every time I write something in obsidian, I just need to commit and push that into my garden repo and the site gets automatically rebuilt by Cloudflare Workers.

On top of that, I have a github action running midnight everyday to import my Anilist notes and turn them into markdown files. This in turn triggers another site rebuild.
