Vol. 1 - 6 Chap. Vol. 2 - 8 Chap. Vol. 3 - 6 Chap. (2022/11/17 - 2022/11/18) Vol. 4 - 6 Chap. (2022/11/20- 2022/11/21)
It’s been more than 6 months since I’ve read a book. So reading this was pretty satisfying. Ngl, I couldn’t remember ANYTHING from the first two books. I didn’t remember shit. I’m still having a hard time figuring out who’s who. This book seriously has something wrong with its characters. Every girl feels the same. Only shadow has character. He’s the only one I can imagine how they would act. The others… I’ve got no freaking clue because their characters aren’t saturated enough. I really enjoy this. If I read all of the books consecutively I’m sure I would love it too. But reading again after more than a year definitely doesn’t work.
The first volume was really fun. I loved the tone. I loved shadow and how oblivious every other character was. It was a fun power fantasy.
Then the second volume rolled around and it was the same as the first. Pretty good. But cracks sort of started to appear. For example how Cid is a master tactician but fails to understand that he literally owns Mitsugoshi. It was funny at first but it doesn’t work as a running joke. It just makes the protag feels incompetent in a novel where he’s supposed to have everything under control.
The third volume was bad. It was at times really boring to read. It was the same old same old. Plus the biggest issue I had was that I started it more than a year after I read the first two. I didn’t remember anyone. Even after finishing the fourth volume I still don’t know most of the seven shadows except beta, and delta.
The first half of the fourth volume was honestly disappointing. I was literally about to call the series quits thinking it has lost its magic. Then the second half rolled in with the whole back in Japan arc. It was absolutely fantastic. It brought a whole new perspective to the eminence in shadow. A whole new audience to awe at his power. I honestly couldn’t stop reading. I ended up finishing the whole book with that.
