While the first season had its share of contrived plot elements, this season had completely blown everything that season did out of the water. Literally. This has abandoned any semblance of logical progression in the second part of the story. The first arc was alright. It didn’t have the same charm as the first season but it made sense. The second part tho.

A power ranger mecha powered by stories a guy came up with to fill plot holes. An angel thing that comes out for just one scene. The god hand that again has absolutely no build up that just appears for one scene. The scene where the brother jumps in the middle of his sister’s life and death fight just to be killed in the process in an instant. What the fuck am I even watching at this point. Its like a bunch of people brainstormed to figure out where to take the story and one guy goes; why don’t we do all of them? What an idiot.

The most jarring of all is how those events just materialize out of nowhere and then vanish into thin air as well. There’s no meaningful buildup nor a satisfying payoff. I don’t even feel emotionally invested, because nothing was earned. The narrative has devolved into a series of disconnected plot points that the writers expect us to accept without question. When pivotal moments occur with zero groundwork, it becomes impossible to invest in the story or characters. The show seems to operate on the assumption that spectacle alone can carry the narrative weight.

I want to be clear: I’m not inherently opposed to the direction they’re taking. The core concepts could work brilliantly with proper execution. I think they’re trying to show us how much things can go out of control if you don’t nip the bud. Plus how powerless our main character is in the face of these indomitable powers. However, the failure lies entirely in the communication and development of these ideas. What we’re witnessing is a descent into madness akin to SAO. And it has the gall to play the first season’s opening at the end of the last episode. Ahhhhhhhh.

A mess of arbitrary plot developments masquerading as storytelling.
