This is one of the best manga I’ve ever read. I’m not even exaggerating. It’s really up there with the bartender and ReLife. I think I’ve found something new about the kind of stories I love. I’m always attracted towards comedy. There’s nothing to doubt it. However, I don’t connect or ‘feel’ the characters and the story if there isn’t a wee bit of drama. This is what Angel just aces. Not only that, the comedy is just too good. It’s really really smart. Okay, I’m very sensitive to comedy alright. Even simple slapsticks get me laughing all over. But the jokes here feel really thought out. And to my surprise, they were everywhere.
Angel’s first chapter is one of the best I’ve read. It’s comedy fit right in with me. It felt perfect. Never have I been that engrained in any manga just from the pilot. Normally, it takes me a couple of chapters to fully get into the flow or story of a title. Angel… Not even the entirety of the first chapter. I was hooked even before I finished it.
When I started the manga, I wondered a lot how the story would evolve and mature. I didn’t even understand ‘how’ it would end. Like, the story follows arcs. Each arc is around 5-10 chapters long. What Angel does great in those sequences is strengthen its main cast. The cast is what makes Angel so great.
Then there’s the small but oh so special romance parts. Ahh, this manga just did so many things other than comedy. See that’s why this is a fav of mine. It managed to make me care about the cast emotionally even if everything is told using jokes. I literally cried two three times reading this. Even the ending… That was just… Superb. The manga started with a bang and went out with a bang too. The ending felt like when I was in the theatre watching Endgame. I was that excited. The story knew how over the top it was and it ended with an over the top Holy War, yeah holy war as well.
The story got a bit boring in the middle. I was afraid that it’d turn out with a lackluster second half. In the end, most of my favourite chapters came from the second half. Yea, even I’m surprised.
Oh yeah, also the art was really really good. A lot of effort has gone into them. I loved the character art. They were totally my type.
